In the U.S. right now there's a anti-methadone group called "HAMRD" This is a group of people that has lost a loved one (death) from a mixture of other drugs as well as methaodne in their system. It's not just the methadone alone that has caused their deaths. It was from a mix of methadone along with another drug or drugs.
This group is now trying in the U.S. to have the methadone regs strengthened to pretty much being impossible for those on it to follow. This group wants ALL CARRIES taken away from patients on methadone. Even patients that have done well and has followed the regs to a T will end up having thier carries taken away. What if this leaks into Canada as well. It's important we help those in the U.S. as we would want to help fight this for the rights and protection of all methadone patients world wide.

We are members of AAWEAR which is Alberta Addicts Who Educate & Advocate Responsibly so that our voice can be heard so that we can be recognized as PEOPLE who deserve respect and understanding within our communities.
Let the Yanks carry on with there Heads in the Sand Just Say No. The wars that the US fights in the name of righteousness make me sicker than when I go Cold Turkey.

I love the name of your user group. It's great. I really feel for the users in the States. I do feel however they have more rights as we do towards methadone cause they really fought to get such rights. There are a lot of great American activists that at least got advocates together to go after clinics that have not followed their regs. Here in Canada people like ourselves do go in and speak with doctors for patients more less what advocates in the States do but we're not a recognized group of advocates such as what they have. We do need to work harder on training and creating our own way of advocating for our people here in Canada. We need the funds in which to do this. They have the funds to do their stuff. Here in Canada we get held back it seems when ever we go for such funding as a USER ADD HOCK GROUP wanting funding to educate and advocate for better things to come it seems.
I don't know how, I've been for years trying to get something yet NOTHING. If you can think of anything please do tell. I'd love to hear about any ideas anyone has. Now with Harper in government we probably won't ever see a cent.
We have users sitting in on some gov boards and agencies yet for ourselves we get nothing. They get our input and ideas and run with them gaining the bucks along the way when it should be us being funded to do the things we suggest to them don't you think.
This HARMD group is really putting the American users of methadone through the ringer. They are fighting like mad to stop these mad people before they cause any more damage to their methadone community. We also need to be aware that they do intend to spread their thoughts of madness into Canada.
We as active users and methadone patients, should be out there NOW educating our communities of the truths of methadone before these type of people get to our communities before us. We need to be out there MORE than what we're doing NOW and do something, anything. BUT OUT THERE VOICING. Just like what your group stands for, GET out there and start VOICING.
I thought that Canada was going to go somewhere by leading the drug strategy. I thought that once they opened their eyes and saw the need for things such as heroin maintenance and crack and coke maintenance that we'd be on our way to better solutions for a choice of different options for treatment. But now after all the hard word by many and all the time put in, and all the positive reports back on how good these different treatments could be , We are taking steps backwards thanks to HARPER and his old American way of thinking when it comes to drugs.
I have a workshop presentation put together if you'd like to have a look at it and use it for speaking . Just let me know if you'd want it and I'll send it to you through the email.
We haven't used it yet ourselves but intend to start using it. That's one of the ways we're raising money to get to Spain. By holding workshop presentations for a fee to different agencies through out different towns and cities.
