There's a group of people in the States that organized a group called HARMD. They are people that have lost loved ones with methadone in their systems. The people they have lost have had more than just methadone in them , they have also had a number of benzo's in them. They are taking it upon themselves to blaim ONLY the methadone as cause of their loved ones deaths and are out to make regulations more harsh for EVERYONE on methadone. Even as far as taking carries away from those that have proven to do well and worked hard for their carries.
If you google into google search eng. And type in Methadone Deaths. You'll see pages of storys about people that have died with methadone in their systems and always you'll read there was other drugs mixed with it. You'll find in the comments of each news article about methadone deaths this woman posting up her org and how they want to make things more harsh. They are also putting out there a lot of miss information about methadone. It's very un fair and sick on their part. Try google and read it for yourself. See what you all think about this HARMD org.

I guess these people are reacting out of pain at their loved one's deaths and being reactionary in the reactions.
Obviously there is much to be critical of about the methadone clinic system as it currently exists in N. America, but it seems these people are throwing out the baby with the bathwater, so to speak.
We want to see lots of reforms of the current methadone clinic system, but we also recognize that methadone is a very, very valuable drug to assist people who are dealing with problematic opiod drug dependencies. When methadone is used in compliance with best practices processes in the context of methadone maintenance therapy it can be extremely effective and helpful for people.
It seems that HARMD is suggesting things which would make it even more difficult for people to do methadone maintenance therapy. For example, carries or take home doses. They are necessary in order that people can begin to live "normal" lives and return to school or enter the workforce. Without carries, people on methadone have to spend an inordinate portion of each day just obtaining their daily dose - and that makes it next to impossible to do something like attend school or hold down a regular job, to say nothing of the difficulty that attending the methadone clinic everyday presents for single parents with young children. _________________
